Portrait of Tim AbelnWelcome to my website and thank you for taking the time to read about me! I am a Dutch photographer who just loves to go out and capture beauty in the world around us. Most of my images are somehow nature related, landscapes, animals, flowers and macro photography. From time to time I venture into new themes and styles too. Please feel free to visit the gallery and enjoy my work at any time. If you find something you like, visit the shop where you can find information on how to order prints (like on canvas, framed prints, metal, acrylic, wood) and all kinds of accessories (like throw pillows, shower curtains and phone cases). If you are really interested in learning more about me, stick around!

It all began in 2014, a very sad year that started with the death of my mother. She was a succesful and more important, very enthousiastic photographer! Her grandchildren called her “Grandma Flash” because she always had her camera and flash light ready. Her enthousiasm sparked my curiosity, but unfortunately she never had the opportunity to mentor me and teach me the tricks of the trade. A few months later I was faced with new misfortune when the relationship with the mother of my child came to an end. Both tragic events caused me to think about who I was at the time and who I want to be. I decided to make some serious changes. While exploring the world in search of the ‘new me’, I remembered my mother’s camera, picked it up and started shooting.

Clueless about all the functions on this professional camera, no idea what to do with most of the filters, flashes and other gadgets my mother had collected during the years and without knowledge of any photography basics like shutterspeed, diaphragm, ISO and depth-of-field. Fortunately my mother had a huge network of friends, many of whom are (professional) photographers. I visited one of them, Frans Rentink, who explained the very basics to me and sent me away to practice and find beauty in this world. I guess I inherited some of the enthousiasm from my mother and it did not take long before I spent hours watching YouTube, reading books and magazines and exploring my surroundings to capture everything I thought worthwhile!

Always in search of interesting subjects, I started going for long walks in the forest and the national park right around the corner of where I live. After some time I started noticing that my perception of the world around me changed, I started looking at the world in different ways. Litteraly, because I became more perceptive of my surroundings, I started noticing how the light touched the environment which makes it so much more beautiful! And also in a broader perspective, because the long photo walks allowed for a lot of introspection and thinking about my goals and priorities in life and the things in this world that are truly important to me.

To me, my son is the most important thing in the world and I wish nothing more than for him to be able to grow up in good health, in freedom and in happiness. I am definately not a saint and far from perfect, but I do believe I became a better person in the past few years and it all started by getting new perspectives of the world, through the lens of my camera. By sharing my images, I share what I see through the lens. I try to develop my images in such a way that the viewers attention is directed to the subjects that drew my attention. Hopefully someday, someone will look at one of those images and see something new and in a different way.

Thank you for getting this far and enduring these dwellings on a irrelevant topic like myself. If you did not have a enough and still want to know more, you are probably writing my biography. In that case, feel free to contact me!
