Today I visited Passieflorahoeve hoping to capture some beautiful butterfly and flower images. Well, that goal has definately been achieved!
Passieflorahoeve is a butterfly and flower garden. In 2016 they have been declared the most complete butterfly garden in the world by IABES (International Association for Butterfly Exhibitors and Suppliers), an organization that protects butterflies worldwide. Passieflorahoeve is not just a beautiful garden center, but also a care farm that helps people with psychological problems and mental or physical disabilities. I definately recommand this place for a day out, it is wonderful, especially for (macro) photographers!
This beautiful butterfly is called a Dryas iulia (often incorrectly spelled julia), commonly called the Julia butterfly, Julia heliconian, the flame, or flambeau. It is a species of brush-footed butterfly. The sole representative of its genus Dryas, it is native from Brazil to southern Texas and Florida, and in summer can sometimes be found as far north as eastern Nebraska.
More photos I made during this trip will follow soon! Meanwhile, enjoy the growing collection of butterfly images in the gallery or visit the shop and find some beautiful wall decoration at Werk aan de Muur, Oh my Prints or Fine Art America.
